Alvin Clark

February 18, 1934 — June 18, 2025

Alvin E. Clark, Jr., 91, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025.

Born on February 18, 1934, in Mercer, Missouri, Alvin was the son of Alvin E. “Billy” and Anna (Gann) Clark. Alvin graduated from Mercer High School in 1952. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany as a radio operator from 1954 to 1956, after training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.

Following his service, Alvin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1959, having previously attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville. He dedicated 36 years of his professional life to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), retiring in 1993.

Alvin married the love of his life, Joan Larson, on June 20, 1964. Together they built a life rooted in love, quiet joy, and deep devotion. They lived in the Kansas City area before retiring to Joan’s family farm in Ethel, Missouri, where they spent many happy years. In 2022, they moved to Kirksville to be closer to family.

Alvin was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was steadfast, loyal, and deeply caring. He was a faithful member of the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas, for many years, and then the Ethel Presbyterian Church in later years, living out his values through his steady presence, service, and quiet strength.

Alvin is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 61 years, Joan; his daughter, Jennifer (Chad) McNeely; his granddaughter, Ellen McNeely; and his brother, Paul. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Pat, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (William, John, and Frank), three sisters-in-law (Mae, Dee, and Mary Ann), a niece (Debbie), and two nephews (Dale and Bob).

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the devoted staff of Hospice of Northeast Missouri for their compassionate care and support during Alvin’s final days.

At his request, Alvin will be cremated, and a private celebration of his life will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
