Obituary

Andrea VanDyke, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Kirksville, Missouri, on June 2, 2026. Born on November 30, 1951, in Kirksville, she was a lifelong resident whose sweet and loving spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Andrea's journey through life was marked by dedication and a nurturing heart. After graduating from Kirksville High School, she devoted herself to caring for others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Twin Pines. Her passion for caregiving extended beyond her professional life, as she cherished every opportunity to babysit her beloved grandchildren, thereby weaving deep bonds with the younger generations of her family.

A woman of vibrant energy and spirited competitiveness, Andrea was known for her love of games of all kinds—from lively yard games to more structured outdoor challenges. She was a dedicated member of a bowling league, where her enthusiasm and determination shone brightly. Andrea’s sharp mind found delight in the intricate puzzles of her variety crossword books, reflecting her keen intellect and love for mental challenges. Through all these joys and pastimes, her ultimate pride and accomplishment were always her family, around whom her world revolved.

Andrea was preceded in death by her husband, Glen “Butch” VanDyke, and three brothers—Terry Stewart, John Stewart, and Danny Stewart—as well as her sister, Joyce Stewart. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who loved them.

She leaves behind a loving family who cherish her memory deeply. Her daughters: Beverly (Gary) Fanning of Bennett, IA; Joyce Dent of Kirksville, Missouri; and Christina (Junnie) Smith of Kirksville, Missouri continue her legacy of love and kindness. Andrea’s spirit is also carried forward by her brother Randy Stewart, and her sisters Donna Steele, Mickey (Donnie) Watts, and Prissy (Dave) Coy. Her large and devoted family includes grandchildren Clinton (Jessica) Fanning, Cynthia Kruse, Jordan (Keri Shoemaker) Dent, Allie (Justin Tubbs) Armstrong, Isac VanDyke, Damarcus McCloud, Trey Smith, Darien Smith, and Jasmine Smith, along with 29 great-grandchildren who all felt Andrea’s warmth and guidance.

A funeral service celebrating Andrea’s life will be held on June 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri. Friends and family are invited to gather at 2100 E Shepherd Ave to honor her memory and share stories of a woman whose sweet nature and loving heart enriched the lives of so many.

Though Andrea has left this world, the light of her kindness, competitive spirit, and tender devotion will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who loved her. She will be remembered not only for her joyful spirit and dedication to family but also for the genuine love she so generously gave. Her legacy endures in the hearts and lives of those she held dear, a touching reminder of a life beautifully lived.
