Rachel Anne Alexander 87, of Queen City passed away Thursday (July 26, 2023) at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
The daughter of Glen and Opal (Elms) Murfin, she was born August 31, 1935. Anne grew up in Queen City and attended the Queen City Public School graduating with the class of 1953. Anne spent her teen-age years helping her father in Murfin’s Grocery Store.
On September 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Martin Alexander and to this marriage three children were born. In 1955 they moved to Joliet, Illinois, where they lived until 1968. They then moved back to Queen City where she was a housewife and mother. From about 1979 to the mid 1980’s she worked at the Bank in Queen City.
Anne is survived by her son, David Alexander and wife Carol of Troy, Missouri, daughter, Louise Shaw and husband Rick of DeSoto, Missouri, nine grandchildren, Jennifer Kemp and husband Wade, Amanda DeGraaf and husband Corey, Anne Redmond and husband Kyle, Blake Shaw and wife Tessa, Rachel Shaw, Joseph Shaw and wife Caleena, Brandyn Wantuck and wife Miranda, Tia Labing and husband Teddy, and Corey Wantuck, twenty-four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, her parents, her son, Doug Alexander, her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Dean Morris.
Anne was a member of Chapter G PEO, and the Modern Mrs. Club. She was a former member of the Queen City Christian Church and now a member of the Nazarene Church.
She loved to paint especially landscapes and really enjoyed playing the piano. She also had a gift shop in Kirksville and Queen City for a time which she really enjoyed.
Anne was known by her grandchildren as “Sunny”.
Funeral service will be Sunday (July 30,2023) at 1:00pm in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Christman officiating. Burial will be in the New Harmony Cemetery west of Greentop.
Pallbearers will be Blake Shaw, Brandon Atkinson, Brian Atkinson, Kyle Redmond, Gary Moffit, Paul Applegate, and Shannon Smith.
Visitation will be Sunday (July 30, 2023) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Dooley Funeral Home.
