Charles Edward Collop, 93, was born on October 11, 1932 and passed away on January 28, 2026 in Kirksville, MO.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, he followed in his father’s footsteps and spent the rest of his life as a farmer. Farming was not only his livelihood, but also his passion. Even after he retired and into his 90’s, Charles would spend time driving back out to the farm to walk the fields and inspect the crops. Quiet by nature, Charles found joy in simple things, including attending bluegrass festivals, teaching himself to play the fiddle and watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. In his younger years he was an avid pheasant and quail hunter.
A devoted son, Charles spent many years serving as full-time caregiver for his aging mother.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Collop, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Berthel and Marie Collop, as well as his sisters, Rowena Rudiger, Frances Stevens, Dorothy Slocum, and Winifred Purgason.
Charles will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hills Cemetery.
