Doris Anita (Thurman) Alexander of Kirksville, MO passed away June 9, 2023, in Tomball, TX.
The daughter of Elmer Thomas and Eula Mable (Bledsoe) Thurman, she was born at LaCrosse, MO, near LaPlata on January 31, 1927. On August 10, 1947 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Willard Alexander who preceded her in death January l, 2015. On August 10th, 2014 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Spray of Kirksville, MO, Barbara Puskar Dendy of Tomball, TX, and Susan Alexander of Knob Noster, MO. Also surviving are seven grandsons, Kenny Spray of Lancaster, MO, Bryan Spray of Chester, WV, Matthew Spray of Kirksville, MO, Joshua Puskar of Spring, TX, Jordan Puskar of Houston, TX, Major Kristopher Edson of Fort Irwin, CA, Craig Edson of Knob Noster, MO, and one granddaughter, Jessica Puskar of Little Elm, TX, ten great grandchildren, Addison Spray, Afton Spray, Cyren Cassidy, Luna Spector, Zolie Puskar, Donovan Puskar, Amaura Spray, Nova Edson, Ruby Lee Spray and Cadence Edson-Levens. Also surviving is a sister Linda (Thurman) Sloan of Macon, MO. Many beloved nieces and nephews and their families also survive her.
Preceding her in death were her father, mother, brother Leon Thurman and wife Maxine, and three sisters, Elma Jackson and husband Roy, Lathella Epperson and husband Harold, Arline Hooper and husband William and brother-in-law Ronnie Sloan, two sons-in-law, Joe Puskar and George Spray, nephew William Hooper II, niece Carol (Jackson) Suchland, and great nephews Brett Jackson and Jarod Thurman.
Doris attended the Banner Rural School northeast of LaPlata and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1944. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College. After her marriage to Willard they lived in Los Angeles, CA, for seven years. In 1954 they returned to MO and lived in Greentop before moving to a farm northwest of Greentop. In 1971 they moved to Queen City. She was employed for twenty-one years at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine.
After their retirement they enjoyed traveling in their RV exploring much of our country. She and Willard also served the community by delivering meals on wheels and at the Schuyler County Food Pantry.
Doris was a member of the Queen City Christian Church, Chapter G PEO, Schuyler Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, Kirksville Chapter No. 184, CWC, E.L.K., and NoMo Bulldogs Camping Club for many years.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2023 at the Dooley Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2023 at the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Queen City Cemetery or Schuyler County Nutrition Site in Lancaster would be appreciated.
