Dorothy Jean Ruggles, born on August 8, 1938, in Livonia, Missouri, passed away on April 1, 2026, in Queen City, Missouri. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warm spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Dorothy cherished the simple joys in life, most notably her love for cooking and the special warmth she brought to family gatherings. She was especially known for preparing delicious meals for Sunday family get-togethers, a tradition that brought her immense joy and created lasting memories for her loved ones. Beyond her culinary talents, Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and pool, and found peace and pleasure in fishing, hobbies that highlighted her lively and engaging nature.
She was the devoted daughter of the late Otto and Clair (Hinerman) Gregory and sister to the late Wayne Gregory. Dorothy also mourned the loss of her husband, Burney "Bill" Ruggles, as well as her son Alan Rowland and sister-in-law Margaret Gregory.
Survived by her loving family, Dorothy leaves behind her daughter Darla (Murl) Lusher of Green Castle, Missouri, and her son Bill Ruggles Jr. of Greentop, Missouri. She was a cherished sister to Paul (Evelyn) Gregory of Denver, Iowa. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren Destiny (Timothy) Juricic, Richard Lusher, Mikel Bret Rowland, Hunter Rowland, and Kegan Rowland, as well as great-grandchildren Aidyn Rowland, Alice Juricic, and Colin Lusher. Her family was a central part of her life, and her devotion to them was unwavering.
Dorothy's life will be remembered as one filled with love, laughter, and an open heart. She created a home where family traditions flourished and where everyone felt welcomed and cherished. Her presence enriched the lives of those around her, and her memory will continue to inspire kindness and warmth in those who had the privilege to know her.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on April 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, located at 711 Washington Street, Queen City, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Murl Lusher, Mark Lusher, Mikel Bret Rowland, Hunter Rowland, Kegan Rowland, and Timothy Juricic. These moments together will honor the life of a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
Dorothy Jean Ruggles’ life was a testament to the power of family, love, and simple pleasures. Though she is no longer with us, the light she shared will continue to shine brightly.
