Douglas C.Porter, 75 of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Doug was born on May 19, 1950, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Gerald Leonard and Gertrude Stella Weber Porter. His first few years were spent in Atlanta, Missouri and later moved to Memphis, Missouri at age 8. He attended the one room Miller School house until 8th grade. He then attended Memphis High School and graduated with the class of 1968.
After graduation, Doug was employed with CB&Q Railroad (later becoming Burlington Northern) as an agent operator. In March 1970, he entered the U.S. Army, and upon his Honorable Discharge, he returned to the railroad.
In 1973, he was united in marriage to Nancy Dial and to this marriage two children were born, Jason and Darin. At the same time, he was enrolled at Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1976 in Business Administration. After graduation, he was employed with Kelly Furniture. In 1980 he obtained a real estate license and sold real estate for Heritage House Realty until 1989. He later started his own business, Four Horizons Realty, Inc in 1989. He took great pride in the businesses he built.
In 2001 he was united with the love of his life, Vicky Elschlager. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and loved all of his family immensely. He was especially proud of his two sons and their families. He was a very kind-hearted, caring man always willing to help any one in need. He was an enthusiastic gun collector and he will be sorely missed by all those that loved him so dearly.
Doug is survived by his wife, Vicky, of the home; two sons, Jason Porter and his wife Amanda of Columbia, Missouri, and Darin Porter and his wife Rebecca of Kirksville, Missouri; two step children, Nick Elschlager and his wife Lindsey of Ankeny, Iowa; and Amy Elschlager of Kirksville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Elli, Jax, Allison, Lucas, Beau and Nash; 3 surviving sisters, Brenda Doucette of Macon, Missouri, Lana and her husband Gary Dial of Memphis, Missouri, and Lisa and her husband Edward Norman of Lancaster, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Gertrude Porter and his brother Greg Porter.
Doug was a member of the Masonic Lodge, El Kadir Shrine Club, Adair County Moose Lodge, Northeast Central Association of Realtors, Missouri Association of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Steve March, Calvin Kilmer, Jax Porter, Jeff Brewer, Carter Clatt, and Brian Dial. Those serving as honorary pallbearers include: Larry Whitney, Tony Martin, Craig Kilmer, and Richard Stefanacci.
