Dr. Norman Clarkson

Harvey Norman Clarkson, D.O., 78 formerly of Kirksville, MO, passed away on Thursday evening (May 13, 2021) in San Antonio, TX with his family at his bedside.

Norman was born January 29, 1943 in Kirksville, MO, the one and only child to William Burl Clarkson and Marvel Melissa (Prather) Clarkson. On November 27, 1969 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Deborah Lou Craggs, who survives.

Dr. Clarkson is also survived by two daughters, Veronica Dawn Kohl (Jerome), their two children, Jackson and Jasmine Kohl, Vanessa Dee Robinson (Chris), their two children, Landon and Ella Robinson, and their son, Wesley Allen Clarkson (Amy) and their three children, Jacob, Emily, and Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He received his education in Kirksville, Missouri and graduated from high school at Kirksville Senior High School in 1961, went on to graduate from college at Northeast Missouri State University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, a Bachelor of Science.  He went on to graduate from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1970 and did a rotating Internship at Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital in Fort Worth, TX from 1970-1971. He returned to Kirksville, Missouri where he did his residency in Internal Medicine at Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital from 1972-1973. He completed a Post Graduate course, Review of Cardiology at the University of Florida at the Medicine Post Graduate Division in Miami, Florida. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and maintained certification throughout his career in addition to multiple other professional certifications and medical accomplishments and accolades. He served the Kirksville, Edina, Shelbyville, and Lewistown communities for over 50 years.

Norman was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Kirksville Rotary Club, The El Kadir Shrine Club, the Adair Lodge #366 A.F. & A.M., and held numerous positions throughout his time serving. He was a staunch supporter of Scouting and was very proud of obtaining the rank of Eagle scout. He was a big supporter of the high schools and colleges in the Kirksville area and served as team doctor for several throughout his career.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 24 th from 6-8 pm at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home and the Masonic and Funeral services on Tuesday, May 25 th at 11 am. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery

Active Pallbearers will be Richard Allen, Paul McClain, Les Hancock, Vern Playle, Robie Elliott, Eldon Hayes, and James Graham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dan Ball, Dale Tindall, Bud Thompson.
