Howard Blake Western, 81 of Greentop passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023.
The son of Oscar Theodore and Yuba Ruth (Slaughter) Western, he was born June 12, 1942 in Greentop, Missouri. He grew up in the McKim community west of Greentop on the family farm. He attended the McKim School. He spent a good amount of his life on the farm where he always had a pet lamb and dog. He later moved in to Greentop where he spent the remainder of his life.
He enjoyed playing games with his nieces and nephews. He attended the New Harmony Church then churches in Greentop and currently attended the Bethel Community Church.
Howard is survived by his sister, Norma James of Kirksville; one nephew, Phillip James; four nieces, Rebecca Hazen, Patricia McCarty, Karla Renaud, and Ellen Beier; 25 great nieces and nephews; 42 great great nieces and nephews; cousins, Barbara Beckler, Nancy Calhoun, James Western, Larry Western, Vicki Schoeb, Ruth Wyatt, Lisa Boyce, Larry Slaughter and Dan Rose; and good friends, Karen Parrish (his housekeeper), Rick Steele (his driver & helper) and Sheila Lyons (his neighbor).
He was preceded in death by his father on May 19, 1998; his mother on May 14, 1970; his brother-in-law, Emmett James and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greentop Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Howard are suggested to the Bethel Community Church.
