Janet Sue (Bailey) Valentine, 74 of Kirksville passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at The Pines in Kirksville.

The daughter of Fred A. and Opal May Bailey, she was born January 6, 1947 in Kirksville, Missouri. On June 11, 1965 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Gene Valentine.

Janet is survived by her husband, Gene; one son, Steven (Tammy) Valentine of Kirksville; one daughter, Dawn Bowens (Shane Nelson) of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Heather (Mitch) Holdren, Zane (Bailey) Valentine, Katelyn (Justin) Rigdon, and Zachary (Destiny) Bowen; six great grandchildren, McKenzie, Kale, Kennedi, Kemper, Hadley, and Mckenna; one brother, Freddie (Linda) Bailey; one sister, Joyce (Dirk) Berglund; one sister-in-law, Joyce Bailey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Bailey; and two sisters, Mittie Ann Mosley and Jane Copp.

Janet worked for Willard School 1964-65, Burdman Auto Parts, Meadow Gold which became Anderson Erikson, Burroughs which became Standard Register and then Bank Midwest until her declining health / Alzheimer’s disease.

Janet enjoyed traveling, reading, collection salt and pepper shakers, playing cards, doing puzzles, and spending time with family, kids movies with the grandchildren. She was active in the Rebekah Lodge and Relay for Life for many years.

Janet was a loving soul who liked to laugh and surround herself with family. She enjoyed an occasional practical joke, which has been known to include a Chinese fire drill in the middle of a busy intersection with her siblings.

A visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. She will be cremated following the visitation.

In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
