Jean Fox Smith

Jean Fox Smith passed away on September 17, 2026, at Kirksville Manor Care. She was born on January 13, 1962, in Loveland, Colorado, and lived a life marked by warmth, humor, devotion to family, and an energetic entrepreneurial spirit.

A 1980 graduate of Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado, Jean continued her education at Metro Business College in Jefferson City, Missouri. She went on to become a beautician and entrepreneur, bringing a variety of business ideas to life alongside her husband. She approached life with creativity and determination, and those who knew her will remember the enthusiasm she brought to her work and ambitions.

On December 12, 1986, Jean married Daniel Smith, beginning a partnership that would shape much of her adult life. Together they shared not only marriage, but also the pursuit of new ideas and ventures. She was deeply devoted to her family and found great joy in being with those she loved most.

Jean delighted in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed going to garage sales, treasured time spent with friends and family, and was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She loved to laugh, and that laughter was a gift to everyone around her. Her friendships were among the great constants of her life, including some that spanned 60 years. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, whose presence brought her lasting happiness.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Smith; her father, Donald Fox; her son, Eric Smith; her daughters, Kerri Smith and Alyse Craig; her brother, Jim Fox; and her sister, Jane Busker, her identical twin, along with several grandchildren and many great grandchildren. In each of these relationships, Jean gave love generously, and her memory will remain a cherished part of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Judith Plachte, stepfather Bill Plachte and stepmother Mary Lou Fox.

Jean Fox Smith will be remembered for her laughter, her loyalty, her enterprising nature, and the love she poured into her family and friendships. Her life leaves behind a legacy of joy, resilience, and deep personal connection that will continue to be felt by all who knew and loved her.
