Mary Kathleen Lowe, 83, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on October 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Kathleen was the beloved daughter of Benjamine and Josephine Lusch Lowe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sarah Lowe, and her brother Larry Lowe. She is survived by her brother Garry and his wife, Veronica, along with many cherished friends who loved her dearly.
Kathleen lived a life filled with purpose, joy, and service. She dedicated herself to advocating for individuals with developmental disabilities. She attended numerous legislative conferences, empowering individuals and families to meet directly with lawmakers, share their stories, and advocate for meaningful policy changes. Her passion was especially evident through her many years teaching the STIR program, where she encouraged others to use their voices and live with confidence.
Her dedication to her community was felt far and wide. Kathleen loved being involved, whether it was volunteering, playing bingo with friends, singing her heart out at karaoke, attending community events, or faithfully participating in Sunday school and church services at First Baptist Church in Kirksville. Her faith was the foundation of her life. Kathleen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and carried her beliefs with grace, joy, and strength, every day.
Kathleen will be remembered for her fun-loving, spirited, and spunky nature. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered. Her quick wit, infectious laugh, and warm heart made everyone feel special. She had a unique gift for bringing joy to others through a smile, a joke, or a simple conversation.
Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, laughter, faith, and unwavering love for others. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
There will be a visitation held at Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 12pm to 2pm with a funeral to follow at 2pm. In memory of Kathleen, we invite everyone to honor her vibrant spirit by wearing your boldest, brightest, most joyful outfits and jewelry.
