Regina Atteberry

Regina Lee (Lightfoot) Attebery passed away on July 28, 2026 while recovering from a recent hip surgery. She was born on May 9, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa to her parents Carol (Shelton) and Roscoe Lightfoot. They moved back to the family farm northwest of Unionville, Missouri where she grew up. 

She started school in the first grade attending the two-room Brown School for its last year of operation. She graduated from Unionville High School in 1963.She attended Northeast Missouri State University for one year before venturing to Kansas City to work as a Southwestern Bell telephone operator. She transferred to Kirksville where she met her husband, Larry Attebery. 

They married on April 6, 1968 and lived in Muncie, Indiana and Greenville, Tennessee before returning to Kirksville in 1972. In 1984 she moved to the St. Louis area with her family. She worked in the credit department and became a sales associate with Famous-Barr department stores which later became Macy’s.She enjoyed garage saling, bargain hunting, traveling with her friends and family, flying with Larry, cheering for the St Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers, and taking boat rides around Spring Lake. After retiring from Macy’s, Regina returned again to Kirksville. 

She enjoyed many clubs including PEO, Mothers’ Home Club, Monday Club, A-Z Club, and Saddle Club. She was a member of the Yarrow United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry of 54 years, and her step-sons Robert and Frank Attebery. She is survived by her sister Judy Robinson (Unionville); sister-in-law Diane (Attebery) Apa (Kirksville), step-sons Steve (San Diego, CA) and Paul Attebery (Charleston, SC); her son Todd Attebery and his wife Jennifer (Wichita, KS), her grandchildren Elliott and Emmaline Attebery; her son Eric and his wife Tessa (Kirksville) and her children Emry, Jaxson and Rhyett; and her step-daughter-in-law: Denise McMillian and husband Ron and their children, Crystal, Ronnie, & Cody McMillian, Jesica (Attebery) Patterson, Adam Attebery and wife Meagen; and all of her great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, MO followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the La Plata Cemetery.
