Richard was born in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Max and Shirley Patterson (deceased). Richard and Anita Overstreet have one son, Bryce Patterson (Darla) and son Michael Davies of Wentzville (St. Louis), Mo. He is survived by his sisters Janet Panhorst (Bob), Foristell (St. Louis) Mo., Joni Rector, (Ron) Moberly, Mo., Joyce Davidson, Macon, Mo. and his brother, Robert Patterson, Quincy, IL. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Richard graduated from Kirksville High School in 1966 and served in the US Navy for four years. He served in Vietnam for a year, then was stationed at the U.S . Naval Base in Charleston, S.C. on the USS Hunley. Upon release from the military, he was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Centerville, Iowa. He then joined the automotive Industry in Ottumwa and Des Moines, Iowa . He returned to Kirksville to open Patterson Auto Sales, later owned an Outlet Linen business and ended with employment at Robertson’s Chevrolet . Upon retirement he moved from Kirksville to Wentzville (St. Louis) to be close to his son and resided there until his death.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27th, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. Burial with Military Rites will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held the night before the service from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Richard enjoyed time with his family, friends, watching and playing the stock market, coin collecting and cars. The family requests donations to Juvenile Diabetes in lieu of flowers. Donations may be made at the viewing and service (envelopes will be provided) or they may be sent to the Davis Playle Hudson Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, Mo.. 63501, Please make donations payable to the American Diabetes Association, Type 1 research. The American Diabetes Assoc. distributes funds back to the community it was received from.
