Ricky Allen Schoonover

September 6, 1952 — December 26, 2021

Ricky Schoonover, 69, of rural Unionville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Ricky Allen Schoonover was born in Kirksville, Missouri, on September 6, 1952, the son of Herman and Rosalie (Thompson) Schoonover, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Schuyler County High school in 1970. Ricky married Patty Burns at her parent’s home near Hartford, Missouri, on March 31, 1972.  Ricky worked for 32 years as a printing press operator at Standard Printing in Kirksville, Missouri.  He then drove trucks for several years with Brooks, Scott Whitworth, Swift, and MFA Oil, retiring in 2015.

Ricky and Patty loved to travel to the western states, especially Wyoming, where they enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and hunting in the wide-open spaces. Ricky liked to hunt for deer and turkey and to fish, especially in the Chariton River. He dearly loved his family and was always the life of the party, especially at the Sunday “services” in the garage at his home. Ricky was a Master Mason at the Hartford Masonic Lodge and was until recently a member of the Moose Lodge in Kirksville.  He was an outgoing person who never met a stranger and was a good friend.

Ricky is survived by his wife, Patty, of the home, and by four sons: Rick Jr. (Donna) Schoonover of Unionville, Missouri; Steven (Keely) Schoonover of Putnam County, Missouri; Chris (Krista) Schoonover of Unionville, Missouri, and Nathan (Brittany) Schoonover of Green Castle, Missouri.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Kera (Dustin) Lewis, Elizabeth (Jake) Bailey, Selby (Chance Hertzog) Schoonover, Bailey Schoonover, Lindy March, Desiree (James Wood) Schoonover, Montana (Nikki) Schoonover, Hunter (Julia Walker) Schoonover, Kalee (Kameryn Sharp) Schoonover, and Adam (Emilee Anderson) Billington; and 12 great grandchildren, Delaney, Jackson, Amelia, & Sarah Lewis; Everett & Clara Bailey; Marlee, Rawlins, and Riggins Schoonover, Bo Hertzog, and Roxanne & Ashton Schoonover, with two great grandchildren on the way.  Ricky is also survived by three brothers, Randy (Angela) Schoonover of Seattle, Washington; Ron (Joyce) Schoonover of Queen City, Missouri; and Rex (Annette) Schoonover of Livonia, Missouri.

Others who preceded Ricky in death are a grandson, Brody Lee, and a brother-in-law, Roger Burns.

Ricky’s wishes were to be cremated.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  For more information contact Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 660) 947-2200.
