Bert Gillum, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 12, 2026, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 74. Born on April 19, 1951, in Kirksville, Missouri. Bert was a graduate of Kirksville High School. He dedicated a significant part of his life to his career as a pressman for 32 years at Standard Register and owned and operated Allied Paper Recycling for 15 years, until his retirement.

Bert was best known for his loving and playful personality, which touched the lives of everyone around him. He was a devoted family man who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his daughters, grandkids, and great-grandkids at their sporting events, his passion for supporting them was unmatched. Bert was not only a fan of his family but also a true lover of sports, particularly football, which brought him joy throughout his life.

A man of many interests, Bert had a deep appreciation for history, making him a knowledgeable history buff. He also had a love for NASCAR and shared countless hours playing cards, with pitch being his favorite game. His bond with his best friend and beloved dog, Axel, was a testament to his loving spirit. It is comforting to know that Bert has now been reunited with Axel.

Bert was married to Vickie Darnel Gillum, with whom he celebrated 52 beautiful years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Vickie Gillum, and their beloved daughters, Callie (Jeff) May and Sara (Ernie) Bunch. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Tabitha Gillum, Kassie (Chris) Buckwalter, Shelby May, Gunner Mauzy, CJ (Gus) Harris, Kristine (Nick) Kelley, Haley Bunch, Lola Bunch, and Addison Bunch, as well as great-grandchildren Alenna Gillum, Levi Kelley, Rowan Kelley, and Leilea Buckwalter.

Bert is also survived by his brothers, John Gillum and Roger (Ellen) Gillum, along with brother-in-law Jim (Vickie) Darnel, sister-in-law Linda Darnel, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Mary Catherine Gillum, his in laws Robert and Lorena Darnel, an infant sister, sister-in-law Janice Gillum, and brother-in-law Larry Darnel.

Bert's warmth, kindness, and playful spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved. He made a lasting mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him, and he will be deeply missed. A visitation to celebrate his life will be held on February 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri.
