Steven Randall Sayre
Steven Randall Sayre, born April 14, 1950, in Kirksville, Missouri, was the son of Albert Elba and Billy June Clevenger Sayre, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his sister, Linda June.
Steve graduated from Putnam County High School in 1968. He went on to attend NMSU, now Truman State University, and later the Kirksville School of Cosmetology, where he eventually became an instructor. From 1987 until the school’s closing, Steve helped shape the lives of countless students. He later worked at Walmart briefly before finding his second home at Pages of Looks, where he continued working until his retirement in 2017.
Following high school, Steve worked side-by-side with his father on the family farm in Putnam County. Over the years, he called both Unionville and Kirksville home.
Steve is survived by his lifelong friend, Denny, and his beloved dachshund, Emmy. He also leaves behind many dear friends and former coworkers who became like family.
Steve had a passion for car shows and restoring classic vehicles, especially a 1994 Corvette and the 2022 Mercedes Denny recently acquired. He also loved cooking and was known for making delicious homemade noodles. One of his favorite pastimes was baking pies with Denny, who taught him how. The two enjoyed spending time in the kitchen together just as much as they did at a car show.
More than anything, Steve loved bringing people together. His favorite moments were the annual work Christmas parties and gathering with those he loved. In Unionville, he was well known for his extravagant Christmas light displays that drew visitors from far and wide.
A visitation will be held at Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 10th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Richard Nations. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Milan, Missouri. His close friends will be his casket bearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Adair County Humane Society.
Steve will be remembered for his warmth, creativity, and the joy he brought to every holiday and every heart.
