Twila P Melton, 96 of Unionville, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Twila was born October 30, 1925, in Salem, Nebraska, to Robert T Tangney and Eva (Whitten) Tangney. In 1939 the Tangneys moved to the Unionville area where Twila has lived ever since. She graduated from Unionville High School with the Class of 1943. On May 6, 1945, Twila married Don Melton and they became parents to Jean Elizabeth and William Paul.
Twila was an employee of the local school district for 23 years, serving as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and school district bookkeeper, was Treasurer for the City of Unionville for 10 years, and served Putman County Housing as bookkeeper for a number of years.
She became a member of the Salem, Nebraska, Congregational Church at a young age transferring her membership to the Unionville United Methodist Church in 1945. She has served on the Church Board and other committees. She was one of the church quilters for a number of years. Twila has been an active member of Chapter A P.E.O. Sisterhood for 67 years, serving five times as the President.
Preceding Twila in death were her parents, her husband Don in 1987, her son-in-law Mike Mowrer, and her sisters Theresa Auxier and Ann Smith.
She is survived by her children Jean Mowrer, Bill Melton and his wife Marji, grandchildren William and Melinda Mowrer, Jane and Scott Cook, Melissa Elkins, Erika and Grant Savage, Andrea and Tom Johnson, Amy Melton-Terrreros, sixteen adorable great and great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Twila Melton will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made payable to the Unionville United Methodist Church or Unionville Cemetery Association and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
