Wayne Curtis Bailey

Wayne Curtis Bailey, 87 of Kirksville passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at The Pines in Kirksville.

The son of Freeman and Ruth (Burns) Bailey, he was born May 20, 1936 in Ethel, Missouri. On November 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Virginia Riley and she preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David and Ross Bailey; one sister, Wilma Lucille Bailey and his grandparents, Charlie and Effie Bailey, who raised him after his parents passed away when he was 4 years old.

Wayne is survived by his children, Jerry Bailey, Joyce Cheers of Lamar, MO, Mike (Jani) Bailey of Greentop, MO and Tonya Bailey of Kirksville; grandchildren, Jessica Bailey, Allison Crabb, Kimberly Raper, Terry Cheers, Jeffrey Bailey, Autumn Bailey, Samantha Kulik; great grandchildren, Ruby Jane Bailey, Andrew Raper, Shawn Raper, Hunter Cheers and Ariyah Cheers.

Wayne attended school in Ethel, Missouri and graduated from Elmer High School in 1954. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet, Illinois for 30 years as a welder. He moved to Kirksville and worked for Twin Pines Adult Care Center for 15 years as night maintenance/security worker until he retired.

He enjoyed woodworking and NASCAR. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Joliet, Illinois. He was also a Boy Scout Leader in Ransom, Illinois in the 1970’s. He was a Christian and was a member of the Ethel Christian Church and the Queen City Methodist Church in Queen City, Missouri.

Wayne will be cremated and no service will be held.
