William Robert Floyd

September 22, 1932 — May 31, 2026

Kirksville

William "Bill" Robert Floyd, age 93, of Mexico, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 31st, 2026, at Boone Health, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 22, 1932, in Kirksville, Missouri, Bill was the son of Audrey Gideon Floyd and Delpha Frances (Acton) Floyd. Bert and Blanche Mercer stepped in to help care for the children while Delpha worked to provide for her family. Following Delpha's passing in 1946, the Mercers volunteered to take in Bill and his siblings, Charles, Joyce, and Patty, continuing to raise and support the children. Through these experiences, Bill developed the strong work ethic, perseverance, self-reliance, and determination that would define his life.

Bill graduated from Kirksville Senior High School and on November 27, 1952, he married Dorothy Maxine Perrin at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and hard work, sharing nearly seventy-one years of marriage before Dorothy's passing on October 16, 2023.

After their marriage, Bill and Dorothy eventually made their home on the Hensley farm, where Bill cared for the property and livestock while they raised their children Judy and Bruce. Later, Bill and Dorothy built their family home on Highway 11, where they welcomed their son Travis, and spent many happy years raising their family and creating a gathering place for family and friends. In 2020, Bill and Dorothy moved to Mexico, Missouri, to be closer to their loved ones.

Bill was well-known throughout the Kirksville area as the owner and operator of Floyd's Super Service and Floyd Oil Co. Inc.,, a full-service gas station that provided fuel, vehicle repair, and gas delivery services to the community. Customers fondly remember the sign displayed outside the station that reflected Bill's friendly spirit:

"If you can't stop, smile as you go by!"

After faithfully serving the community for many years, the station was lost to a devastating fire in February 1994. True to his resilient nature, Bill began a second career as a laboratory courier for Northeast Regional Medical Center, where he worked until retirement. Even after retiring, he remained active and enjoyed delivering vehicles for Jim Robertson Chevrolet, a job that allowed him to travel, meet people, and stay connected to the community he loved.

Bill and Dorothy were devoted members of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. Their faith guided their lives and provided lifelong friendships through their church family. Bill especially enjoyed gathering with friends for coffee and conversation, often arriving early at Hardee's to start the coffee before the rest of the group arrived.

More than anything, Bill loved people. He genuinely enjoyed hearing how friends, neighbors, and family members were doing and took a sincere interest in their lives. He appreciated every phone call, visit, card, and conversation. After moving to Mexico, he was especially grateful for the many friends who continued to stay in touch, sharing stories and keeping their friendships strong despite the distance.

Family was the center of Bill's world. His children grew up surrounded by large family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, card games, cookouts, and celebrations. He loved camping trips, fishing outings, and spending time outdoors with those he loved. His grandchildren have fond memories of fishing at the pond, riding on the lawnmower with Grandpa, and gathering for family events where everyone was welcome. Bill enjoyed woodworking and spent countless hours creating gifts and keepsakes for his children and grandchildren. He also loved gardening, hunting, fishing, establishing food plots for deer, and playing cards with family and friends.

Bill took immense pride in his family and celebrated their accomplishments as if they were his own. He believed people mattered and never lost interest in the lives, successes, and well-being of those he cared about. Known for his hardy sense of humor, strong work ethic, and determination, Bill approached life with resilience and grit. He was never afraid of hard work and found satisfaction in a job well done. His devotion to family, faith, friends, and community left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Bill is survived by his children, Judy Roshau of Red Wing, Minnesota; Bruce Floyd of Columbia, Missouri; and William Travis Floyd (Corrine) of Mexico, Missouri.

He was a proud grandfather to Camey Fox of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; Nicole Blake (Jake) of Buffalo, Minnesota; James Roshau (Christina) of Mandan, North Dakota; Kelli Kent (Derek) and Jacquelyn Floyd of Columbia, Missouri; Ashlynn Floyd (Hope), Felicia Floyd, Genevieve Floyd, Lila Floyd, and Luke Floyd of Mexico, Missouri.

He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Delaynee Christensen (Jacob), Grace Fox, Rafe Fox, Marcus Duerre, Ashtyn Karlee Duerre, Joshua Kent, Kaelyn Kent, Claire Kent, and Ka'Mirah Sarai Floyd-Nunnelly. He is also survived by his great-great-granddaughter, Lyla Kay Duerre, and two precious great-great-grandchildren expected this year.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his parents, Audrey and Delpha Floyd; foster parents Bert and Blanche Mercer; brothers Buell Leroy Floyd, Pearl "Blackie" Floyd, and Charles Eugene Floyd; sisters Joyce June Curtis and Patricia Ann Niece; niece Valleri and husband Larry Norfolk; niece Shellie Eitel; nephew Eric Floyd; brothers-in-law Wendell Curtis and Verlan "Joker" Niece; sister-in-law Darlene Floyd; and many other beloved family members and friends who welcomed him into eternal rest.

For nearly three years after Dorothy's passing, Bill often spoke of how much he missed her, frequently saying, "I sure miss that red head." The family finds comfort in knowing that Bill and Dorothy are together again, reunited in Christ after a lifetime of love, friendship, faith, and devotion.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville, Missouri. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.

Following the services, family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and lunch at the Playle Rimer Millard Family Funeral Chapel's family center. Lunch will be provided by Hy-Vee and the ladies of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.

Like Dorothy, Bill chose cremation.

One of Bill's favorite scripture passages was Joshua 1:9:

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Those words reflected the faith, strength, and perseverance that carried him throughout his life.
